The river which ran from the east to the western plains down to the sea, had divided the town into two areas, the Northern Area and the Southern Area. As time passes this simply became and called Boac. The municipality of Boac is believed to be the only municipality in the Philippines to have buildings with more than 100 stories. Some tourist attraction here are the Kabugsakan Falls, Boac Museum which contains important facts and information about the place, the Boac Cathedral is Marinduque's central cathedral and The Moriones Festival an annual festival held on Holy Week.
